They Provide Me Safe Harbor

As the crush of misfortunes rage…
when I see no hope or way to assuage…
when despair becomes my cage.

There is no depth or low…
nor dark mood or life’s kayo…
that a smile or laugh from my children cannot set aglow.

All symptom or grief…
dissipate in relief…
like the unrelenting power of the ocean meeting a barrier reef.

But I am not lifted on the swell of their action alone…
my need to know their joy is ingrown….
to serve them I reconnect with my own humor’d tone.

Through their action and mine…
hardships of life are kept benign…
by the safe harbor of… “This is what makes life oh so fine!”
